Why Choose Mosaic Way for Play Therapy in Frisco

Frisco is a city filled with young families and energetic children. With more than 200,000 residents and thousands of families living in zip codes 75033, 75034, 75035, and 75036, parents want their children to feel confident, emotionally secure, and connected at home and at school. The fast growth of Frisco ISD, the pressures of academic performance, and the busy pace of life can sometimes leave children overwhelmed or unsure how to express their feelings.

Mosaic Way Counseling understands the unique needs of children growing up in Frisco. Our play therapists help children communicate through play, which is a natural and developmentally appropriate way for them to process emotions. Whether a child is adjusting to a move to a neighborhood like Phillips Creek Ranch, Stonebriar, or Frisco Square, or facing challenges such as anxiety, grief, or behavioral struggles, play therapy can give them a safe space to explore their world and build emotional resilience.

Our therapists are trained in child centered approaches that support regulation, confidence, and connection. We collaborate closely with families and value the important role parents and caregivers play in the healing process. Many of the children we support attend local Frisco ISD elementary and middle schools, and we understand the expectations and social dynamics they experience every day.

What Is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy uses a child’s natural language of play to help them express emotions, build skills, and process experiences in a safe and familiar environment. Since children often struggle to put their feelings into words, play allows them to communicate in a way that feels comfortable and empowering.

Our trained therapists guide the process through activities that support emotional regulation, problem solving, confidence, and healthy expression.

Benefits of Play Therapy

Play Therapy can help children:

When is Play Therapy Used?

Play Therapy is most effective for children ages 3 to 12 who are experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges. It can support children coping with:

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT)

Child-Centered Play Therapy, often called CCPT, is a research-backed approach that puts the child in the driver’s seat. Sessions are led by the child. Our therapists create a warm, accepting space where kids can play freely and without judgment.

The idea behind CCPT is simple. Children naturally communicate through play. When a child feels safe and in control of their play, they begin to work through their feelings on their own terms. Our therapists observe, reflect, and gently guide the process without directing or correcting the child’s choices.

CCPT is especially effective for children dealing with anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, or emotional dysregulation. It helps children build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and feel more secure in themselves and in their relationships.

What to Expect in a CCPT Session

Your child will have access to a thoughtfully equipped play therapy room. Sessions typically run 45 to 50 minutes. Parents are often invited to check in with the therapist at key points in the process so the whole family stays connected to the work being done.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, or PCIT, is an evidence-based treatment designed to strengthen the relationship between a parent and child while addressing challenging behaviors. It is one of the most well-studied approaches in child mental health, with decades of research behind it.

PCIT works in two phases. In the first phase, parents learn skills to follow their child’s lead during play, building warmth and connection. In the second phase, parents learn how to set calm, consistent limits that reduce defiance and improve behavior at home and school.

One of the things that makes PCIT different is live coaching. During sessions, our therapists coach parents in real time as they interact with their child. This hands-on support helps parents feel confident using new skills right away, not just after reading a handout.

Who Is PCIT For?

PCIT is most effective for children ages 2 to 7 who are showing significant behavioral challenges such as aggression, defiance, tantrums, or difficulty following directions. It is also a strong fit for families navigating trauma, attachment disruptions, or major life changes.

If you are not sure whether PCIT is the right fit for your child, our team is happy to talk it through with you during a free consultation.
