You feel everything at full volume. One comment, one small setback, one sideways look from someone you love, and the day is derailed. You are not overreacting. You are not broken. You likely just have a more sensitive nervous system than most people, and no one has ever given you the specific tools that would actually help.

That is what DBT does. Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed specifically for people who experience emotions more intensely than others. It provides a concrete, skills-based framework for navigating the “middle path,” accepting yourself as you are while also building toward the life you want.

The Four Core Skills of DBT

DBT is not traditional talk therapy. It is active, skills-based, and organized around four specific modules that each address a different dimension of emotional and relational life.

Each module builds on the others. Together they create a complete framework for a more regulated, connected life.

Who DBT Helps

DBT was originally developed for borderline personality disorder, but research has since demonstrated its effectiveness for a wide range of challenges, including:

It is also particularly effective for teenagers navigating the intensity of adolescence, which is why DBT is one of the methods we frequently use in our teen counseling work in Southlake.

What Sessions Look Like

DBT sessions are structured and skill-focused. We track what you practiced during the week, identify what got in the way, work through the skill together in session, and plan what to try before the next appointment. Progress is visible and concrete.

Many clients describe DBT as the first approach that gave them something real to do with their emotions, not just a place to talk about having them.

The Mosaic Way Difference

We are careful to distinguish between DBT-informed care and true DBT training. Our therapists understand the dialectic at the heart of the method: accepting yourself fully while committing to meaningful change. That balance is not easy to hold, and it requires a therapist who is trained and has the space to do it well.

We are available Monday through Saturday, 8AM to 8PM. We work with clients from Southlake, Keller, Colleyville, Grapevine, Westlake, Northlake, and Trophy Club. Start with a free 30-minute consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

DBT teaches you to pause between a trigger and your reaction, creating space to choose your response. The Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance modules give you specific techniques for managing intense feelings before they take over.

Neither is universally better. CBT is often preferred for anxiety and depression. DBT is often the better fit for people experiencing intense emotional swings, self-harm urges, or significant difficulty in relationships. Our therapists will help identify which approach fits your situation best.

The four modules are Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Each addresses a different dimension of emotional and relational life, and they are designed to work together as a complete system.
