Child and Play Therapy for Dallas Families
Kids don’t always have words for what’s wrong. What parents see instead is behavior. More meltdowns. Hard nights. A child who liked school last year and now says their stomach hurts each morning.
Play therapy gives a child another way to say it.
Mosaic Way Counseling offers play therapy in the dedicated play space at our Addison/North Dallas office on Preston Road. It’s the office to start with if you live in North Dallas.

How We Work Together
Free Consultation
This meeting is about getting to know YOU. We want to know you and your story so that we can help you take the next step in your journey.
Match with Your Therapist
Now that we know you, we can match you with a therapist that has the skills, passion and experience to help you achieve your goals.
Therapy with Purpose
As a solutions-focused practice, we work together with you to develop a treatment plan and achieve your goals.
How play therapy works
A trained therapist uses toys, art, games, stories, and pretend play to help a child show what’s going on inside.
From the outside it can look like ordinary play. The therapist is watching something else. What the child picks. What they repeat. What they avoid. How they act when something gets hard.
Our team includes therapists trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Child Parent Relationship Therapy, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. Those approaches work on the bond between a child and a parent, not just the child alone.
What parents can expect
The therapist usually starts with you. They’ll ask about your concerns, your child’s history, and what has changed at home, at school, or with friends.
The first visit may include you, your child, or both. That depends on your child’s age and the therapist’s approach.
It takes time for a child to trust a new adult. Early visits often focus on safety first. Your therapist will talk with you about goals, what stays private, and what must be shared for safety.
Parents stay involved. You may join some visits, meet with the therapist alone, or learn ways to help at home.
Why families call
- Big feelings that seem out of step with what happened.
- A change in behavior at school or at home.
- Worry, fear, or trouble being apart from a parent.
- Grief after a death, a move, or a divorce.
- A scary or overwhelming event.
- Trouble with friends or with anger.
Missing school for counseling
Many parents worry about missed class. Several of our child and teen therapists offer after-school or evening appointments, though those times tend to fill quickly.
Texas law helps here. Under Texas Education Code Section 25.087, public schools must excuse a student’s absence for an appointment with a health care professional, including a mental health professional, if the student attends school that same day. A 2025 update to the law names mental health professionals directly.
When you ask, the counselor can write a note confirming your child attended. It doesn’t need to include a diagnosis or what was discussed. Private schools set their own rules, so check with the attendance office.
Ages we see
Some of our child therapists work with children as young as 3. Not every therapist serves every age group, so we match on age, needs, and the reason you’re reaching out. Older kids and teens may do better with art, music, or writing than with a play space.

What a session looks like
A child walks into a room full of toys, art supplies, and games. The therapist lets them lead much of the time.
A child might act out a story with figures, build something and knock it down, or draw the same picture week after week. Each of those choices tells the therapist something.
Afterward, the therapist may check in with you about what they’re noticing and what you can try at home.
Visits, hours, and cost
In-person sessions happen at our Addison/North Dallas office, 18383 Preston Road, Suite 427, Dallas, TX 75252. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, and Saturday, 8am to 3pm. It’s closed Sunday. Session times vary by therapist. Some of our therapists also meet by secure video with anyone located in Texas.
Our offices are built to feel warm and calm, not clinical. Entrances, parking, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
Sessions generally range from $100 to $200. The rate depends on the therapist’s license, experience, and the type of service. Couples and family sessions may have a different rate. We take cash, credit cards, and debit cards. HSA and FSA cards are accepted for eligible services.
We accept most eligible Aetna plans. That coverage runs through some of our associate-level counselors and licensed master social workers. They bill under a clinical supervisor. We check your coverage before you book.
Most of our fully licensed therapists are private pay. You may still be able to use out-of-network benefits. When it makes sense, we can give you a superbill. That’s a detailed receipt you send to your plan. It doesn’t guarantee you’ll be paid back.
