Play Therapist & CBT Counselor in Frisco & Southlake, TX

Mia, a previous elementary school teacher, is passionate about building relationships that foster growth and goal obtainment. She has experience working with a wide variety of age groups, including children, adolescents, and young adults, specializing in a modality rooted in CBT and play therapy. She fosters a safe and empathetic space for clients to explore challenges related to anxiety, depression, stress and coping, as well as marriage and family conflict.

Mia received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandman University in Childhood Education and later pursued a Master of Education Degree in Counseling and Development from Lamar University where she specialized in Marriage, Family, and Couple Counseling.

Here’s what sets Mia apart: she spent years as an elementary school teacher before becoming a therapist. That’s not just a fun fact on her resume. It means she has a real, practical understanding of how kids think, how they communicate at different ages, and what’s going on developmentally when behavior starts to shift. When she’s doing play therapy with a child, she’s drawing on all of that experience. Parents regularly tell us their kid opened up with Mia in ways they hadn’t seen at home.

She’s not just a kids’ therapist, though. With adults, Mia is practical and to the point. She uses CBT to help people see the thought patterns that keep them stuck — the ones driving anxiety, stress, or low mood. And when there’s trauma underneath it, she brings in EMDR. She’s the kind of therapist who won’t let you stay comfortable if comfortable means staying stuck. But she’s warm about it.

Couples and families are another big part of her practice. Her graduate work focused specifically on Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling, so this isn’t something she picked up on the side. She’s trained for it. Communication breakdowns, parenting conflicts, the tension that builds up when two people stop being honest with each other — she knows how to walk into that room and make it productive. She’s also working toward certification in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is a structured program built around strengthening the relationship between parent and child.

Mia sees clients at both the Frisco and Southlake offices. She works with kids, teens, and adults, and she’s good at juggling the scheduling realities of busy families. If you want a therapist who can work with your child and also help you and your partner communicate better, Mia can do both.
